What Remains (2013) Jancy - Pigment print, syringe and needle, 61cm x 50.8cm Teddy - Pigment print, Fluid giving set, drip stand, 76.2cm x 61cm What is the purpose of a photograph? to preserve memories? to serve as proof? After each of my cats passed away, both after a fairly long period of deterioration and daily administration of medicine, what was left behind physically, besides photographs of them, were the used syringes and fluid sets. For a while, I avoided looking at pictures of them, yet I couldn’t bring myself to throw away the last traces of their existence. In these 2 works, I explore whether a photograph stops serving as a memory even when the object is no longer in the photographs.
